Mike Mason

Mike comes to 19 News with decades of award-winning investigative reporting experience. He has received dozens of first place awards including the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Baton, IRE Certificate, Regional and National Edward R. Murrow awards and Emmys.

In 2014, Mike produced an hour-long documentary in Asheville, North Carolina which exposed how EPA officials knowingly subjected residents to highly toxic public drinking water for decades. The case went before the U.S. Supreme Court and helped spark the passage of new victims' rights laws. Activist Erin Brockovich lobbied in D.C. on behalf of the victims.

Mike has worked at television stations in a number of cities including Anchorage, AK, Asheville, NC, Greenville, MS, Atlanta and several Florida cities including Fort Myers, Tampa and Miami. He has also freelanced in Atlanta and New York City.

Mike attended college in Miami and Los Angeles where he received degrees in both art and communications.

Mike moved to Cleveland to be closer to his family in New England. He now lives on Cleveland's West side but grew up along the Canadian border in Northern Vermont. Mike's French-Canadian grandparents raised 16 children on a dairy farm (Mike's mother is number 15).

Mike likes playing sports, hiking, art, writing, camping, canoeing and anything outdoors.

Mike serves on the Investigative Reporter & Editor's (IRE) Press Freedom Committee. He feels issues surrounding freedom of the press have never been as significant or vulnerable as they are now. Mike strives to give a voice to the voiceless, while holding officials accountable and even rattling their cages in order to shake out corruption.
