Matt Mergen
Multimedia Journalist

Matt Mergen joined 13 Action News as a multimedia journalist in July of 2024.
He grew up in Stow, Ohio and graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School in 2019.
After high school, Matt attended Kent State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication with a concentration in media and society, along with a business minor.
Matt always had a goal of working in TV. While attending Kent State, he became involved with student media. His focus was sports media and was involved with TV2 for almost all four years of college. He hosted an hour-long sports show called "Sports Corner" for two years and was also the executive producer for two semesters.
Matt started his professional career at WFMJ in Youngstown as an intern in 2023, before becoming the weekend sports anchor while still in school. He produced sports blocks, shot video, and was an anchor on the 30th anniversary of the Great Clips Overtime Report during football season.
In his career some of his favorite events to cover include the MAC Championships in 2023, the Youngstown Phantoms winning the USHL Clark Cup for the first time in franchise history, and Horizon League Tournament playoff games for basketball.
In his free time, Matt enjoys watching sports, playing basketball, working out, and going home to see friends and family. Matt earned his Eagle Scout rank in 2019 and still likes to camp with his scouting friends.
Matt is excited to be with 13 Action News and is looking forward to calling Toledo a second home.
